This is a video about loss and the sweetness of memory.

With the hope that this small piece of work can have an impact, I offer it wholeheartedly.

I am an author and artist living in southern Utah near Zion National Park. I was raised on an isolated ranch in Wyoming and was in my junior year in college back East when my father called to tell me my mother had had an aneurism. When she died a week later, the sun fell out of the sky. I have written about her in my memoir, Riding the White Horse Home. “Bones,” the chapter about grief, has been widely anthologized. I have also written about her in a book which is forthcoming this spring, The Year of Living Virtuously (Weekends Off).
